Fish Cake

I know, I know, another cake. Sometimes I feel like this is just a cake blog. Oh well. You all get to enjoy pictures of my new hobby! Paul got me this tropical cake pan for mother's day and I had to try it out. I already had these colors of frosting so I decided to use what I had and make a green fish.

Trip to Nauvoo

We took Paul's mom to the Nauvoo temple and had a great time. Aubrey and Dad rode the sheep and then Aubrey tried doing the dishes in a little pioneer cabin. She doesn't quite reach yet!

Fun at the mall

Paul's mom came to visit us this last weekend. We went to the mall and took some fun pictures on the play yard at the mall. Then we went to the carousel inside the mall and Grandma took Aubrey on a fun ride.

Cinco De Mayo

We invited some friends over for dinner and had a fun Cinco De Mayo fiesta last week. We made authentic mexican food, (or as authentic as we could get) and a festive cake. It was a lot of fun to decorate it together. We thought it turned out pretty cool.

Tornado Town

While walking with Papp J through Iowa City, Pappa J said that he wanted to see a tornado--go figure. Then we came upon this tornado, and although it was not quite what he expected, it was the best storm we could whip up on such short notice.

Pappa J's A Okay

We welcomed Pappa J with a fun cake. Ashley had her last cake decorating class on Thursday, the night that Pappa J came to visit. When Ashley brought the cake in, Pappa J explained to us how "in style" Ashley's cake was--apparently butterflies are "in." We had such a fun weekend. On Friday--after Paul's last final--we went and ate at AppleBee's where we saw some of our favorite friends--Joseph and Heidi Miller and Heidi's parents. Then we went shopping and Pappa J got Aubrey a fun summer dress and outfit at Gymborie. On Saturday we went to the Arc Carnival that the ward put on and we had so much fun visiting everyone. Later we went and walked around Iowa City before eating at the Hamburg Inn #2. For all of you who love the food there, we thought it was a big downer--although the chili that Pappa J ate (we think it was straight out of a can) did help him feel "regular."

Mother's Day and Pappa J

On Mother's Day morning, we had a yummy pancake breakfast before wizzing off to church. Ashley got a fun cake stand and two new cake molds. At church we gave talks about how much we love our mommies--and our Pappa J's. After Church we came home and got things ready to send Pappa J off to Utah. Then mom and Aubrey were so exhausted that they crashed on the floor.

Week Five

This week we learned how to do sunflowers, roses, and rosebuds. It is my sister Tracy's birthday on Sunday so I made a sunflower cake for her. The only thing I didn't do was the lettering. I was in a bit of a hurry to finish the cake so my teacher did the writing for me. (For her birthday she sent me a cake decorating package and it was so much fun! She gave me some fun new tips and books to use while I decorate.) Then I practiced my roses and rosebuds on wax paper. Roses are easier than I thought they would be, although mine are still far from perfect!

Quilt

I have started quilting with a friend of mine, Heidi Miller. I have all of the blocks done. However, this is a friendship quilt and so we give blocks to other people and they send us their blocks of different colors and designs. This is how the quilt would have looked without the different blocks.

Ten Months Old!

Aubrey is already ten months old. It is amazing how quickly time passes. She is crawling like a professional, standing up while leaning against furniture, and can have an enlightening baby-talk conversation. We think she is the cutest little girl in the world!

Week Four

Week four of cake decorating we learned how to make some flowers. The middle red flower is NOT mine. Our teacher made that flower and I liked it so much that I put it on my cake!
